The Part of an Open Casting Audition

You have just as much of a chance as every one else at the audition to get the role and realize one of your dreams. Every one at the casting call is on an equal playing ground, so don’t be concerned about some ones else’s giant portfolio they are brandishing about the open casting call room. Unless the casting directors requested for you to bring in extra photos or videos, you are just carrying something around that will not be looked at anyways and can just get in the way.

The only things to be certain to have with you is a headshot. Most headshots will have a headshot on the front, and your latest resume information on the back. Resume information asked of you for an open casting audition can include performing credits, training, and skills. Be honest about the work you have done. Lying at an audition about what your skills are can waste everyone’s time, and may end up being the last audition you are invited to. Remember, everyone is busy, and time is money in the film industry.

Don’t be concerned about how someone else at your open casting call is dressed. And don’t be concerned if you both happen to have the same outfit on. Most open auditions will have a suggested look, so you are bound to look like everyone else. On the other side of this, don’t panic if you don’t look like everyone else. The casting call may have called for multiple looks for multiple roles they are searching for. Entertainment is always looking to do something new, and it’s how you look, act, move, speak, and everything you do that makes you an individual.

You are there because you want to be an actor/actress. Well this is what you are about to be. Even if it’s only for a few minutes in front a casting director and a camera, or a couple of production house members behind a table, you have the opportunity to act at this casting call. Think of this as a one night single performance for a few minutes. Remember the cliché “There are no small parts only small actors”, so these few moments, this open casting audition is the whole show. Now this one show may be asked to be repeated, extended, or lead to more shows and opportunities. But for right now your only focus is this moment is this one show….your casting audition.
